There's a risk in any urban neighborhood; criminals are mobile and Cincinnati's "good" neighborhoods often butt up against its "bad" neighborhoods. But the risk certainly is lesser in Hyde Park, Mt. Lookout, Columbia-Tusculum, etc.

What? When was the last time you were in Madisonville?

They have made a LOT of progress in Madisonville to make it much better!!! Id rather live there (i did technically) than Price Hill ( I did live there too).

Heres one for you- I have lived in both those places, never had ANY issues with theft, violence, etc......until i moved to Norwood. My car was broken into and someone stole my daughters bike literally right off our front porch. Take that for what it is.

When I lived in Madisonville, I often left doors unlocked, etc., and never had a problem. Once I left the back door open and went away for the weekend. D'oh! The worst crime in or neighborhood was when the drunk up the street crashed into my neighbor's car.

My college roommate lived in Hyde Park her car was broken into multiple times, in her garage.

No reason for me to pile on the criticism of Mudville, but I think it is fantasy to compare crime in HP with that in Mudville. I'd bet the crime rate for violent crime and robbery is 10 times higher than HP.

Wilson 513 ....

I like your tag Mudville. To me it fits considerably.

Of course, Madisonville was an old ass town when I was young, over 70 years ago. In my youth, which I will just state 1945-1952, we would go to Madisonville to purchase shoes, produce, meats, etc. At that time things were OK. By the time I started to UC in 1952 until when I graduated in 1957, Madisonville went downhill like a sled on a snowy hill.

By the time I graduated from UC, and when I-71 was being built, I was looking for any way to get from Madeira to Norwood without going via Madisonville.I spent many a year going down
Madison Rd. I would duck through Madeia down to Stewart Rd south to Madison and then south to Edwards Rd in Oakley/Norwood. So I got there and back

When I-71 was completed, near the time of my 1957 graduation from UC, I was glorious. My first job was still at Madison and Edwards Rds in Norwood. When I say completed, no not really.

Yea. KJ. I-71 started at Redbank Rd. and went north only in 1970.

OK, so can anyone give me their thoughts/stereotypes of these towns, because this is where we are concentrating our search so far.

Hyde Park
Mt Lookout - is there any difference in crowds there vs Hyde Park? Seems like homes are cheaper.
Mt Adams - Does it still get really collegey at night? We always went up there during the day, so never saw that crowd.
Anderson Twownship
Madeira - How is their downtown (main drag) atmosphere?
Montgomery - How is their downtown (main drag) atmosphere?
Mariemont - What goes on here? Such a unique main drag, but I've only driven through it, never spent time.

Thank you all for all the great information. Such a huge help!

Mariemont is close to Kenwood and Madisonville. They have great schools and great walking things (town, ice cream, etc). They have GREAT parks and we actually miss them.

I'm sure it is, but that wasn't my point.

LOL. That depends who you ask. You'll get everything from unabashed praise as a beautiful little town in which to raise a family to damnation for small, outdated houses and/or snobbery.
