my personal school rankings:

Public Schools

1) Indian Hill
2) Sycamore (includes Montgomery, Blue Ash locations) and Wyoming (TIE)
3) William Mason (Be careful though they are getting overcrowded and making new schools)
4) Madeira & Mariemont (TIE)
5) Loveland & Lakota (Lakota getting overcrowded too)

Walnut Hills and Princeton are likely slotted around the 4th or 5th ranking as well but I haven't studied them as much since I was mainly looking in the above locations.
I used mainly proficiency scores, and AP placement data to determine the rankings.

This is just a one-year move? I'd go with convenience. Beechwood is a good school district and close to where your job will be. Ft. Thomas has good schools too but would be a little further of a drive (but not bad) and there's no big apartment complexes. You might be able to rent a house though.

Ft. Mitchell, Edgewood, Crestview Hills are all adjacent to Erlanger and offer good schools and excellent shopping. For a short term rental those will be your best options, as they offer quick access to Erlanger without even getting on the highway. You might even consider Erlanger itself. Like the Ohio side, the public schools are good, but there is no shortage of excellent private schools, especially Catholic parochial schools.

What kind of shopping, and I mean by local retailing (non-chains)?

Crestview Hills has an outdoor mall equivalent to Hyde Park / Norwood. the original poster asked about malls. However, locally owned-operated / mom & pop places typically line the Dixie Highway, through Ft. Michell, Erlanger and Elsemere. You can find anything from these places from fine custom jewelry, bicycles, vacuums, electronics, apparel -- what are you looking for? Honestly, you could ask me, but you'd be better off using Google Maps

I was just curious, because I wasn't aware of there being a lot of local retailers in those areas.
