I'd choose New Mexico, due to the natural scenic beauty and Native American culture heritage. Then I'd pick New York. New Jersey and New Hampshire would be tied for third.

All of these are pretty respectable states as whole.

My list would go as follows:

New Hampshire:
In today's world of up-to-speed and go-go-go, New Hampshire gives you that 'retreat' kind of feel, without feeling like your in 1940... Also, the geography is beautiful.

New York:
Often outshadowed by NYC, the state of NY is beatiful as well. It's a ocean state, and a great lakes state. It has mountains, farmland and beautiful Finger Lakes. Great cities throughout NY too-

New Mexico & New Jersey:
Tie for me. Probably polar opposites too. NM is a large land area and low density, and NJ is has the highest density in the USA. I love NJ's large cities and the North/South differences in culuture, and I love NM's Southwest feel. Plus ABQ is a cool city.

Obviously I like my home state best, but NY is great and my actual second-place amongst them is New Mexico (potentially my future home state?).

NY and NJ are both home states for me, so it's kinda hard to pick. NY has NYC, lottsa other great cities, and alot more else too. But, I think overall, NJ is the better state.

1. New Jersey
2. New York

I've been to New Hampshire alotta times and I do like it, it feels really clean and pretty. But, it also feels a lil "empty" and out of the loop, and I like that a lil less. It might not be, it's just how I feel there.

3. New Hampshire

New Mexico is one of the most sparsely populated states, and it's kinda "deserty", so, it automatically doesn't appeal to me. I don't have any desire to ever really go there but, maybe actually going there would change my mind. I read it has some heavily forested areas in the north, so unlike the popular image it's not all desert, and it has a unique culture with it's hispanic and native populations. So, it might be pretty cool.

4. New Mexico
