You never thought that travel for business and Asians in general have a huge impact on the NY number? I said for tourism from Europe and Latin America Miami is number one.

Obviously overseas travelers think differently. Probably they find pristine beaches, warm weather, and great night life to be more important than gambling. But you live in Seattle, so it's obvious that great weather, sophisticated night life, hot women, etc is not that important to you. On a side note, have you even been to Miami? How much time did you spend and where did you stay?

I would never go to Miami I would go to Miami Beach if I had the chance. The poll only notes overseas travelers Las Vegas has many more visitors a year than Miami they just dont fly over the ocean. Miami Beach is the true destination in the area not the city for say. Even Seattle gets over 10million+ visitors a year there just from other states mostly. I guess because Im not from overseas I have no desire to go there. Ill keep going to Vegas Baby where the night life never ends.

So you have never been to Miam Beach, correct?

Love the reasoning about "fly over the ocean" by the way. FYI, it means international visitors not from Mexico or Canada.

FYI, in Miami there is no last call (even in NY there is at 4 am) and there are clubs which open at 4 am and stay open until noon. But you prefer the desert!

Ok There are other cities in usa that dont have last calls also just not Miami soon seattle is doing away with there last calls also. Its the best way to cut down on drunk driving no flood of drivers on road way after last call. So even Seattle on the other side of the U S is having unlimited drinking hours and lots of other cities. Miami probably has a really cool night seen but so does other cities Austin, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Seattle we have over 100,000 college kids at UW campuses in city were a college town oh yeah Boston also the original party town .

You never thought to click on the link I provided in my previous post?

According to the United States Department of Commerce, New York City was in fact more of a leisure destination for overseas visitors than Miami. Please click on the link you were supplied with on the previous post.

Top Cities for Leisure Travel.

1. New York City - 20.5%
2. Miami 14.8%
3. Los Angeles 9.8%
4. Honolulu 8.9%
5. Newark 7.7%
6. Guam 6.7%
7. Chicago 5.3%
8. Orlando 5%
9. San Francisco 4.9%
10. Atlanta 2.7%
11. Washington 2.5%
12. Boston 1.8%
13. Philadelphia 1.6%
14. Houston 1.2%

(When foreign visitors come to NYC (through JFK and EWR), they are asked by immigration if they're coming for business and pleasure...in case you're wondering where the statistics came from))

And yes, the vast majority of New York City overseas visitors are European.

Well you're still wrong. Did you really think 75% of New York City's foreign visitors are from Asia and Africa? LOL.

Tourism figures from European officials actually pegged the Western European visitors to the United States at a much higher figure than the United States Department of Commerce.

Quote:
New York City was the second most visited city [by Western Europeans] with almost 11 million arrivals, up 23% in 2008. Thanks to its proximity and historic links, New York City is the number one destination for Western Europeans to the US.

Ok, 2nd...although Euros go to NY for 3 days once in a lifetime tipically while there are loads of Euros and Latin Americans who own second homes in Miami and spend a considerable amount of time each year there.

Why don't visitors from Asia (a vastly more populous and diverse place) count again? NYC is in such a completely different league from Miami--though I like Miami for the most part and it seems to be making itself better. Albeit slowly these days.
