As a native of Hampton Roads, I would say Southern-lite with a Baltimore feel.

So, that's another noteworthy difference with the D.C. - Baltimore area, which is strong blue.

A mix of Southern and MidAtlantic. Not as Cosmopolitan as DC, ATL, and Charlotte but its not country backwoods either. Its hard to put the area into a particular category because its city, suburb, countryside, beach town, military town, midatlantic, southern, etc. all in one. Its the type of place you have to experience for yourself to really understand what it is.

Also the Historic Triangle, which is very unique.

I would put the Hampton Roads as one of the most unique areas in the South and in the country. I would call it unique Southern like New Orleans.
