The Northern Rockies: all of Idaho, and western Wyoming and Montana.

There are no ugly mountains
Appalachians are awesome in spring and fall.
Rockies are great for skiing and the sheer presence. They are many mountains.
Sierra Nevada's have beautiful pine forrests.
Cascades I haven't seen but might be my favorite.
Ozarks aren't talked about but really are pretty. Many of them look like large tree covered plateaus. Do a google image search on them or maybe someone will post some pics. They are probably the most liveable.
Alaska would also probably get my vote if I'd been there.
Also there are a few other ranges that weren't mentioned. Porcupine mountains in Michigan are also really pretty.

I don't care for the little nubs that are classified as mountains on the east coast.

Give me the jagged cliffs only found on the western half of the US, the Rockies, Cascades, Alaska, and the Sierra Nevadas.

I gave my vote to the Sierra Nevadas because in this world of superlatives, the Sierra Nevadas have the highest peak in the contigous states.

However, the Rockies, Cascades, and Alaska are just as beautiful.

I think it's sad when people's viewpoint of beauty is narrow minded that they refer to mountains like Mt Mitchell, 6684 ft, covered in beautiful desidious trees that are so colorful, as "nubs".

Arizona has tons of beautiful mountain country but doesn't fit in with Southern Rockies. I vote AZ.

The U.S. has many great mountain regions. However, I don't see how any of them can beat those in Alaska.
