What is your favorite mountain region in the US? What do you like about the region of your choice? Basis upon recreation, heritage, altitude, scenery, culture, skiing/athletics, or just darn good memories.
Southern Appalachian (GA/SC/NC/TN/VA /Smokies, Blue Ridge, Shenandoah)
Northern Appalachian (MD, PA, NY, CT, MA, VT, NH, ME /Allegheny, Pocono, Catskill/Adirondacks, Berkshires, Green Mts, White Mts)
Ozarks/Ouachita (Arkansas,MO,OK)
Southern Rockies -(New Mexico & Colorado /Sandias, Sangre de Cristos, San Juans, Front Range)
There are no ugly mountains
Appalachians are awesome in spring and fall.
Rockies are great for skiing and the sheer presence. They are many mountains.
Sierra Nevada's have beautiful pine forrests.
Cascades I haven't seen but might be my favorite.
Ozarks aren't talked about but really are pretty. Many of them look like large tree covered plateaus. Do a google image search on them or maybe someone will post some pics. They are probably the most liveable.
Alaska would also probably get my vote if I'd been there.
Also there are a few other ranges that weren't mentioned. Porcupine mountains in Michigan are also really pretty.
I think it's sad when people's viewpoint of beauty is narrow minded that they refer to mountains like Mt Mitchell, 6684 ft, covered in beautiful desidious trees that are so colorful, as "nubs".
The U.S. has many great mountain regions. However, I don't see how any of them can beat those in Alaska.
