I know a diversity thread has been done with these two but I don't think a plain vs. thread has ever been done.
Before people ask why am I comparing a region to a city, let's get some perspective...
Bay Area Pop.: 7,427,757
NYC Pop.: 8,391,881
Anyway, these two areas of the country are almost always considered the most progressive, most liberal, most diverse, etc... but obviously, they have plenty of differences that make them unique compared to the rest of the country and even the rest of the world.
I'm not going to do criteria because imo that simplifies the discussion... make any case you want for why one's better than the other.
In terms of criteria that cancel out, both are considered ridiculously expensive so I don't think housing prices should be used a point against either.
Also, this is strictly comparing NYC and not the NYC Metro (19,000,000+ people) and the Bay Area does not include Sacramento.
NYC has much more and much better of just about everything.
