Not really sure how to compare both are the smaller city in their regions and with shipping, chemicals, and oil ties. Wilmington probably has a larger Finance/Banking industry and Galveston is on the coast with a larger port and oil influence
Imagine the PT, especially rail service to Wilmington is much better but the COL is likely higher - Hometown of VP Biden
COL- Galveston considerably less expensive
QOL- Wilmington (Bos-Wash location, 4 seasons, local amenities)
Port Activity- Wilmington by far
Economy- Wilmington (Galveston's economy is torusism-driven and has no answer for DuPont, Hercules and AstraZeneca and the bank centers)
Safety- Galveston (Galveston has nothing as dangerous as Wilmington's east side)
Infrastructure- Wilmington (better highways, local bus system and Amtrak linkage)
History- Toss up as both are pretty fascinating
Diversity- Galveston gets the edge with good Hispanic mix
Amenities- Wilmington (Brandywine Valley and great museums outweigh Galveston's downtown Strand and not too nice beach; Wilmington also has much better big box shopping and a more sophisticated dining scene)
Overall- Edge goes to Wilmington by 60/40

Are you sure about that? Galveston has one of the highest crime rates in the Houston area. The touristy parts are fairly safe though.
Wilmington has made vast improvements over the past 10 years. They are building a nicer downtown to attract all the young professionals that work in banking and finance who currently live in Philadelphia and commute via train or car. The benefits of Wilmington are its proximity to Philly and Baltimore for commuters and for the real travellers (to DC---a la VP Biden pre VP days).
Galveston has been hit by so many natural disasters and a lot of industry closers, it will need a lot to recover.
Thus, I would give the edge to Wilmington. 50 years ago, definitely Galveston.
Yep. I rely on statistics rather than impressions.
I assume you've never been to Wilmington's east side?
Nope. I assume you've never been to Galveston's north side? I haven't seen the statistics so I'll take your word for it. I think most people from outside of Southeast Texas assume Galveston is a fairly safe town because they've only been to the touristy parts, but it supposedly has some of the worst crime neighborhoods in the area depending on the statistics you look at.

You'd be quite wrong. I lived Houston for 26 years until this January. I know Galveston.

Please look at them and you'll see I'm correct.

It's not the waters of the caribbean but I don't remember the waters of Galveston looking like chocolate milk.
