Just a quick shout out to Charlotte. Moving up to Gamma+. It seems Charlotte's international presence is increasing.

Miami is already at the brink of being an Alpha while about to have an economic boost from Gentings plans (If Miami legalizes gambling), along with another series of a crazy building boom. Miami has more on the drawing board than any other city in the U.S. quite possibly. Thats scary

If best case scenario happens to Miami, I can see them moving up in the GaWC rankings within in 10-20 years to top 15 at the very least.

Miami will be waving bye bye to Boston, San Fran, DC, Atlanta, Houston and Dallas (notice I said best case scenario. don't take the posts personal)

Miami has the most potential to really move up seriously.

I think I got all of em now. I found it odd that Buffalo didn't even make the list.
I was thinking the same thing about Louisville and OKC (but Tulsa did make it). Nothing against Tulsa, but how did it (and Omaha) beat out the aforementioned three? Is there something about Tulsa and Omaha that I am not aware of?

I think that Rochester is in fact passing Buffalo as NY's number 2 city
Here's the latest evidence:

Buffalo's main Mail processing center is closing and moving to Rochester, including 700 employees
Buffalo mail-processing center may close - City of Buffalo - The Buffalo News (http://www.buffalonews.com/city/communities/buffalo/article557590.ece - broken link)

Rochester made GaWC's "world cities" ranking list (albeit at the lowest rank), but Buffalo didn't
GaWC - The World According to GaWC 2010

Rochester is now NY's second largest economy, behind NYC
Rochester, New York - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

and i just found this page, kinda interesting: Great Lakes Megalopolis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It shows that they expect Rochester's MSA population to pass that of Buffalo's by 2025.
-note: they are both declining in population....it's just that Buffalo is falling faster

Being that it is a ranking of cities and not a ranking of overdeveloped suburbs, I think it makes sense.

I wonder if Birmingham refers to Alabama or England??? After all, Birmingham England is significantly larger.
BTW, does anyone know what these categories mean? What distinguishes one from another?

One more thing...the ascent of Miami into the future is going to be tied to the emerging economies of South America, especially Brazil. I do have to laugh that, while Miami gets trashed on C-D all the time, it is not only the highest ranked city in the South (including Texas) but it's also higher than Boston.
Of course, if the DC folks now want to claim they are in South to be ranked higher, that's fine with me.
