I would be ashamed if my city was home to the hippie movement, couldnt look myself in the mirror. The hippies do not help society. Also, SF has tried to hide this dirty little secret...... how their citizens openly supported the slavery of Chinese community.
I would be way more proud of being home to the mob (Chicago or NY) over SF (hippie movement). Atleast the mob history is interesting to me.
They definitely helped out the night life, some of the better clubs were mob owned. Hippies would never own a club, it is against their ideology, unless it was an organic community owned operation for getting discounts on cheap granola.
I never said they helped out society, I said their history is atleast interesting (atleast to me).
So just beucase the Hippie Movement isn't interesting to you, its negative?
And because you don't like the world famous Creole food, its negative? No, if anything say the politics of New Orleans since you love to hate it. Say something that's actually negative to the masses about New Orleans.

Clubs, lol. Some of the best music in history was directly inspired by the hippie/psychedelic movement of the 60's. Some great writing too (Ken Kessey, for example). The mob is garbage.
All of those are most certainly negative history IMO. Those are three things I would feel shame if a citizen of NOLA. Yes, Katrina is logical. Therefore, why mention it? ......everyone already knows about it.
Cuisine is not history. Geographical location is not history. Some random miscellaneous statement by a mayor is a historical moment, but doesn't constitute history in the way it's meant in this thread.
And I wasn't just referring to Katrina, but also another devastating hurricane very early in NOLA's history. And if we shouldn't mention NOLA's obvious history, why do you go on to mention the obvious negative history of those other cities?

And the mobs ran many jazz clubs and paid many artists.
