The more corruption a state (or government in general) has, the less likely your taxpayer money is going to get to where it is supposed to go (like infrastructure).

Although this ranking does appear to rank some factors that don't involve direction corruption but the potential of unforseen corruption etc..

Ya why don't they make 2 list. one for corruption and one for transparency.
Which states have the most Corruption.
Oh Ill-Annoy and Chicago would instantly make the top 3 if not the #1 spot.
Where do all Illinois Governors go? Prison lol.
Rod Blagoavich is there next up is Quinnyhead.
luckily the smart people of Illinois have or are in the process of fleeing to Indiana

It seems like this study is based systemic checks on corruption rather than how much corruption actually exists. Having lived in both the northeast and the upper midwest I would say there is no way places like North Dakota or Minnesota are more corrupt than New Jersey or Rhode Island. Graft just isn't part of the culture here. Maybe because it is less common there are fewer checks on it.

Chicago has and has had a lot of stupid politicians and corruption. Each time something huge happens they make reforms little by little, which is why we are ranked in the upper 1/3 of states now.

If we had an F for corruption then they wouldn't be arresting and sending everyone to prison who is taking advantage of the system.

The state has problems, but there's a difference between a history of corruption and not having any laws to go after those people.

Who's fleeing to Indiana? Where? I've been here 11 years and never met anyone who moved to Indiana. Not that there's anything wrong with Indiana in my opinion, I have tons of friends who grew up there and moved to Chicago. They're all nice people.

I guess that's why politicians in Trenton average the highest salaries.
