Thanks to about 20 sock puppet votes.

It was trailing L.A. by a good 18 votes not even 10 minutes ago.

That's a 3rd City move right there.

I have to agree. LA people won't like it and I'm sure many others as well but this is my opinion (and apparently yours) so oh well.

And somehow it can't be rebuilt/inhabited, right? All of the multinational businesses/interests/etc headquartered in NYC would still be around in some capacity (many of them barely fazed), so those wouldn't be gone. Just the City and its residents would be vaporized.

In that case, I think the financial sector would disperse to other areas (Chicago, SF, Connecticut, Philly etc etc). I think some of the financial industry would move to LA, but not that much. Most of the corporations would probably move their headquarters to Chicago. Some would maybe move to LA, but again, not that much. I think all LA would get would be Madison Ave, the art/culture industries, the rest of the entertainment industry, the media, publishing, etc.

What we'd end up with is a solidified "cultural capital" in LA, with business interests spread between SF, Chicago, and some mix of Philly, New Jersey, Connecticut, Boston. Where would Wall Street go? Not sure what would happen.. I don't see it just "moving" to Chicago, since it would still need to be as close as possible to London/Europe. We'd probably see it split with a west coast wall street in SF and an east coast wall street in Philly.
Agree!

I know you didn't quote me, but I truly think Chicago is more similar to NYC than any other city is. Therefore, IMO, it comes second to NY. So if there weren't a NY, the premier city to me at least would be Chicago, the city most similar to NYC.

This is quite similar to another thread in which a certain city that has been trailing in the poll results and then all of a sudden gets a large number of votes from it's boosters in a very short period of time. Seems like deja vu all over again.

My issue isn't so much about Chicago being the most similar to NYC, it was more about the poster's statement that Chicago trumps every city except NYC.
