Keep it on the land San Francisco. I would not want to live in Honolulu but I would definitely visit not live but visit. San Francisco is a great city to live in.

Honolulu is nice but Hawaii is too isolated. San Francisco for me.

San Francisco seems to be more economically and culturally diverse. Plus, you're not visibly swarmed by tourists everywhere you go.
