I chose Honolulu because its like a Tropical Paradise. San Francisco has the advantage of being on the US mainland, but I don't live on the US mainland so I could manage. If only Hawaii was in the Gulf of Mexico in between Texas and Florida.

Recently voted on a Honolulu vs. Miami thread, was difficult since both have large pros but overall decided which I would rather buy a vacation house ( voted for Honolulu). Though I would easily say San Francisco over Honolulu, have many similarities, but San Francisco isn't isolated.

I have visited Honolulu a few times and every time I go there I get the distinct impression that nearly everything there that is worth seeing is for the tourists, and the people who actually live there have to contend with expensive real estate, which forces many to live in condos and apartments. Many of the apartments are older, the business district is very unfriendly, and while beautiful, many of the natives are lazy. They're also quite racist.

I can't say I blame them ... tourists and settlers basically destroyed their local culture.

On the other hand, BEAUTIFUL people, from all over the world!

San Fransisco on the other hand seemed more welcoming, open, less "gimme your money you filthy tourist" and still had a nice set of ethnicities and subcultures.

I am originally from nyc and I have been living on the island of Oahu for 2 years. I would like to move to SF because it seems more fast paced to me. Honolulu is nice, but outside of luaus and the beach there really isnt much else to do. I don't like the idea of not being able to road to other states now. Also, there is no winter here and miss having 4 seasons.
Plus, shipping costs for ordering goods online are so high.

Honolulu. I love sunshine, beaches, and warmth. I hate SanFran's gloomy cold weather.
