Yeah PG County right now is having a rough start unfortunately. Crime is still down. But the crime right now is pretty sad right now.

It's not that crime is down, it's that compared to last year especially we've had an extra weird winter.

If you're talking about PG, it's down with or without a weird winter. It use to be alot worse years ago.

Chicago is right now at 52. The thing is about here...if you know your stuff, you know that most of this homicide happens in a few greater areas. Here's the breakdown by neighborhood (Community Area) as of now:

West Garfield Park - 6
North Lawndale - 4
Austin - 3
Englewood - 3
Gage Park - 3
West Town - 3
West Englewood - 3
Bridgeport - 2
Humboldt Park - 2
Lower West Side - 2
Portage Park - 2
South Lawndale - 2
South Shore - 2
Albany Park - 1
Auburn Gresham - 1
Brighton Park - 1
Chatham - 1
East Side - 1
Greater Grand Crossing - 1
Kenwood - 1
Near North Side - 1
Near South Side - 1
New City - 1
Roseland - 1
South Chicago - 1
Washington Heights - 1
West Pullman - 1

So of the 77 community areas in Chicago, 27 have recorded homicides this year so far. I usually split the homicide centers up into a few areas - The area around Humboldt Park, the one starting at New City area and moving South along I-94 until Roseland or West Pullman..

1) Greater Humboldt Park area (west side of the city) - includes Humboldt Park, West Garfield Park, Austin, North Lawndale, South Lawndale --> Responsible for 17 of the 52 homicides, or around 33% of the homicides this year.

2) New City/Englewood along I-94 and South - includes Englewood, West Englewood, Gage Park, New City, Greater Grand Crossing, Roseland, Pullman, West Pullman, Washington Heights, Auburn Gresham --> Responsible for 16 of the 52 homicides, or around 31%.

These two areas of 15 communities are responsible for 63.5% of the homicides this year in the entire city of Chicago. That's 63.5% of the homicides so far this year only occuring in less than 20% of the entire neighborhood makeup of the city.

There is also another area which has seen a lot of stuff and that is around South Shore, South Chicago, and East Side. That makes up another 4 homicides or around 8%. So adding these 3 means that over 71% of the homicides in Chicago this year have happened in only 28.6% of the neighborhoods.

By contrast, when you look at areas that are pretty yuppified, like the famous northside, there is exactly 1 homicide that's taken place this year. If you expand that out to the NW and far NW side, then the total goes to 4. In these areas, there's about 1 million people, or more than San Francisco. These areas have a much better rate than a lot of cities in the US.

It's pretty much a tale of two cities. Very sad indeed.

If trends continue, Philly will finish this year below 250 murders. This means Philly is the safest large urban city.

Philly is SAFER than New York and Chicago, ADMIT IT!!

It would still have a higher rate than either New York, San Francisco or Boston.

Yeah, San Francisco and Boston are small towns compared to Philly anyway and New York still FEELS more dangerous. If criminals don't harm you, NYPD, crazy drives, and Wall St. will.

Atlanta is at 8 as of 2/9, the latest data available on the APD website, which is up from 4 (double) the same time in 2012. Its still too early to determine if its going to finish higher this year than last year (I hope not). It has been quiet since then.
