I really love the mix of little narrow warrens and stately cobbestoned streets of Center City:

Here are some more pix (mine) from Center City:

Nice Pix..

1 - unlike you, I lived in both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh...I know every angle of both city's.

2 - No the pictures aren't mine, sorry not a photography major...I fail to see the relevancy to the discussion at hand...

Here's some more Pittsburgh Pics for your viewing pleasure.... To prove my point unlike your pictures exclusively of Center City Philadelphia, my pictures are of the Various Pittsburgh Neighborhoods outside of the Core Central Business District, only one is actually of downtown Pittsburgh

Those Pittsburgh pics are not shot on a normal day, there must be a special event going on. While the Philly ones are, I live in Philly and it DOES look like that.

Please dont respond to him. And if you lived in Philadelphia you would know that Philly has them neighborhoods outside of center city. Lets not bash eachother's city ok? We share a state. So together we make Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania. LOL. So the state needs us, or else its Alaska. Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh are beautiful, and amazing American cities. But it is known that Philly is a little step ahead of the Burg. IMHO Pittsburgh competes perfectly with mid/large cities, and Philly competes perfectly with large cities. Its like a two hit knockout. We own on all levels (exept NYC, and L.A) LOL!

Indeed. Which confirms my point:

I am not clear what your point is, unless you are trying to encourage someone to visit because they can explore far-flung neighborhoods. Philly has offerings outside its dense core as well. Should one tire of Center City, a tourist can hope on a train or get into their car to visit Manayunk, the zoo, Chestnut Hill, Wissahickon Park, Morris Arboretum, Camden Aquarium or Valley Forge, to name but a few places. Having the option to spend time in a vibrant city core as well as visiting outlying areas would seem better than only having the option to visit disconnected neighborhoods and attractions. But that's just me.

As for the pix, you might be careful: unless they are yours, it is a violation of the ToS to post them.

How is a city of 300,000 people, region of 2.5 M people more spread out than a city of 1,500,000 residents and a region of 7.5 M people?

I can respect you standing up for your city blackbeauty but lets try and keep it real here. It's a bad argument you present here.

BlackBeauty, with all due respect as a fellow Pittsburgher while I greatly admire your zeal for the Steel City you come across as being very unnecessarily combative, argumentative, and dramatic in many of your posts. Pittsburgh can't compare to Philadelphia, just like Philadelphia can't compare to NYC. There are different "leagues" of cities in the world, my dear. NYC, London, Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, Moscow, etc. are in the top tier. Philadelphia would be in the second tier along with Boston, Chicago, Houston, Seattle, Mumbai, Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, Toronto, Vancouver, Vienna, Frankfurt, Sydney, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, and many others. Pittsburgh is in the next tier down and would compete better with Cleveland, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Kansas City, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Milwaukee, Buffalo, Louisville, Indianapolis, Columbus, Austin, Portland, Edmonton, Nice, Marseilles, Dusseldorf, Lisbon, Ankara, Singapore, etc. There's nothing wrong with that. Nothing at all.

Why can't we just appreciate both cities as being great places for tourists? For what it's worth it's been many years since I've visited Philadelphia, and I plan to return soon. Guess what? Northwest Philadelphia IS on my list, along with Center City/University City (or are they the same neighborhood?), and potentially the Main Line.

JESUS CHRIST........ Again I said NOTHING ABOUT Pittsburgh being better or offering more than Philadelphia.....

LEARN HOW TO READ PEOPLE!

The 2 Cities However are set up Differently in the way their Cultural Attractions are distributed within the cities! And as someone who has actually Lived in Both Cities for a significant amount of time....I will continue to stand by my statement, and NO amount of Insecure, Paranoid, Irrational Philadelphia Booster/Homers are going to get me to back down from that....

I'm real tired of Ignorant Philly Homers who don't know 2 Sh*ts about Pittsburgh, continually Pi$$ on it, like some insignificant bastard child of PA.

Speaking of the these two cities, will be going to Pittsbugh to check out a game at the Pirates stadium this year (not sure which weekend). What are some cool areas to check out and recommendations on a good neighborhood to stay in to be able to walk to restaurants and nightlife
