Well, its not apples to apples. The counties in Georgia are much smaller. However, I think you mean that if Charlotte and Atlanta had the same land area, Charlotte would feel significantly smaller.

However, the point you about almost all of the developed area of the Atlanta Metro area being a fraction of the land area can be applied to almost any major metro area. Take DFW for example. Its 9,000 square miles as a metro area with 6.7 million people, however almost 6 million of them reside in 3,400 square miles. Most of the rest is farm and ranch land. The same principle can be applied to Atlanta, LA, Houston, and Miami.

You could include the nearest 14 counties in addition to Charlotte's MSA and it comes fairly close to Atlanta's MSA, but that's not how it works.
I agree with that. Just like with the Greenville-Anderson-Mauldin MSA, it only includes 4 counties but if it included 16 counties, it would be as large as Charlotte.

Ehh, no. South Carolina is short about 5 million people. The counties aren't as populated.

The counties of a metropolitan area don't all have to be in the same state. You should know that considering you live in Charlotte.

I'm aware. Are you aware of Charlotte's distance to the SC line? That's why. You can't pick any county you want and add it to a MSA just because.
