No other city has Philadelphia music, Philadelphia architecture, Philadelphia history, Philadelphia character, etc. Since when are we defining cities by one thing? What kind of generic way is that to think of a city; like its a Blu-Ray player or something. IT HAS 3D!! GTFOH
NYC is just too much of a powerhouse that made Philly become less relevant these days. NYC sucks life out of the cities in that general vicinity. If I lived in the middle of Philly and NYC, I'd easily choose NYC to go party, tour, and have fun at.

Philly is cheaper though. Cheaper parking, drinks, public transit, etc. etc.
Which is why people choose it over NYC. My friends regularly have their friends come down from Bronx and Staten Island because they claim it is far too expensive to go out in NYC.
Philly has great nightlife, and it is really underrepresented on this forum.

I never said Philly has bad nightlife, but the scale is just much larger in NYC. But you're right. NYC can get expensive, so Philly can be a good cheap alternative. I mean, Philly area is still 6.2M people and that's a lot for a non-primate city of a country.
NYC dominates in nightlife so much, it isn't even funny. Within 25 sq miles of Manhattan are more places to go to than 400 sq miles of the next tier of cities (SF, Chicago, LA)
The people that live in Philadelphia are interested in doing things in Philadelphia with an occassional trip to NY. Isn't that a common thing when big cities are close to each other? New York really doesn't dominant when it comes to Philadelphia folks going out on the town.
In response to MD discusing how far removed U City is from Center City
Here is an image of new tower under construction that show just how far removed U City is from Center City
And an image of the construction from a building in Center City - they are worlds apart and no connectivity at all
U City isn't far from Center City. It's just across a river. Nothing wrong with that. So is Arlington V.A., and no, I'm not saying Arlington V.A. is connected to DC like U City is to Center City:

Also, how do you think U City stacks up against the Rosslyn-Ballston Corridor in 2013?
