And this statement is 100% fantasy. You forgot to mention the Orcs and Aliens.

The correct, unbiased statement is-

"Brooklyn is among the most iconic parts of the world's most iconic city, and has peaked in importance and notoriety in the present era, as the creative and cultural energies making NYC arguably the most important city on earth gradually shifted across the East River to Brooklyn"

And, for Malibu-

"Malibu is a suburb of LA known for its beach and as a weekend haunt for celebrities who otherwise live in LA. It's also known for it's concentration of substance abuse addiction centers, and the name was used for a mid-sized Chevy sedan".

Actually, precisely as I stated, by grapico's same source, it's proven that Malibu is known more worldwide whereas Brooklyn is a largely American phenomenon. When searching the Corpus of Global Web-Based English, just glancing at the top 100 references to each word, approximately HALF of the first 100 references to Brooklyn are US-based, whereas less than a third of Malibu references are in the US. And the sources largely back up what MichiVegas and I stated earlier, Brooklyn attracts hipsters and Malibu attracts those interested in celebritydom around the world.

They probably know more about Malibu too.

Well Hipsters are shifting across the river, that's for sure. Otherwise, crickets:

Also, for what it's worth, Brooklyn is translated into 79 languages on Wikipedia. Malibu into 41. It is so "world famous" that apparently nobody in Croatia or Denmark or Turkey (a country of 75 million) has even bothered to write an article about it.

Only passed through NYC, so can't comment on which is better.

But here's my take, as an angelino. Forget beverley hills, forget the west side, forget the uppity areas full of rich folks.

Bring it to Koreatown, Los Feliz, Atwater, Hollywood, Downtown, ect. Overall, all the real places with real people, all the craziness, the griminess, take the subway to downtown, take it to koreatown, to pasadena's old town. There' that's real L.A.

We're as grimey as new york, just better at hiding it. Forget the stars, forget the rich and famous, forget the beaches. Want the real L.A.? Get out of your comfort zone. Everyone wants to go to L.A. to see the lavish lives of the rich and famous. They will be disappointed. Because it's only a small portion. Focus on us, the oridinaly folks, the guy running the taco truck, the Armenian Restraunt in Glendale, that pizza spot on vermon in hollywood, the small eateries in Downtown, the graffiti on the old buildings, the graffiti on the L.A. river. Experience the grime of downtown, admire the old cryptic buildings, soak in the fact that downtown is yet to become disneyland.

Everyone comes to L.A. thinking they're comming to disneyland, then get dissapointed that it wasn't. But then hate L.A. and say it's too ghetto. Love it for what it is. We're more real than you think. Just say "Screw the west side", and you'll see an L.A. they never show you on TMZ.

He mentioned creative and cultural energies. What do Fortune 500 companies have to do with that? Creative finance?!
