Everything seems really packed above the 10 and west of Arcadia. 95% of US metro/cities are urban sprawled but LA is pretty densed. LA ain't a pumpkin city, major traffic from 6am to 9pm is common. Downtown LA is slowly catching up, but it will never be as huge as some eastern cities.

I'm from LA and moved to the Detroit area. They are both nice, but I think LA right at this moment surpasses Downtown Detroit. But, Downtown Detroit is booming right now, so this question might be answered differently in 5 to 7 years.
