I loled when I saw this thread honestly. So this is a joke right because I've must've missed it. Seriously we all know Charlotte is booming so now we get the silly comparisons as well? What's next Charlotte compared to Tulsa now. Just sad and we still get the tired posters that say Charlotte is a wannabe city

Ill have to disagree on this post. Charlotte has endured the stigma of being a “wannabe” city. Now, there are great strides being made to stake our own claim. For instance, there is evidence in the campaign to drop the "N.C." from "Charlotte, N.C." as well as the efforts and endowments to create a viable cultural center. Honestly, for the first time, we’re kind of happy being Charlotte. We realize that people want to come here, from the U.S. and from around the world. Charlotte is just as real as other "real" city in the United States

Criteria:

Architecture
Parks and Public Spaces
Art and Cultural Events
Public Transportation/Traffic
Walkability
Restaurants and Shops
Weather
Surrounding areas and nature
Jobs/Cost of Living
Architecture: Charlotte by a mile...far better skyline
Parks & Public Spaces: Columbia w/ the river running through it...Lake Norman though is very nice
Arts & Cultural Events: Charlotte
Public Transportation: Charlotte by a long shot (it actually has light rail)
Walkability: Similar...both grew after the auto was are main way of transportation
Restaurants and Shops: Charlotte (will have a lot more variety)
Weather: Same in both places...Cola may average to be about 1-2 degrees warmer...you don't notice that kind of difference usually. 92 or 90 feel the same in summer...44 or 42 feel the same in winter.
Surrounding Areas: Charlotte
Nature: Both are in the Piedmont so it's similar
Jobs: Charlotte
Cost of Living: Columbia (SC is cheaper than NC but jobs are not as plentiful)

there are a lot more hardwoods in Charlotte, Columbia is mostly pineforest and the northeast side is sandhills. Columbia looks more similar to Raleigh than Charlotte in terms of scenery.

I would take Cola b/c much less traffic. Charlotte main advantage is more shopping / restaurants but for me that would not offset the additional traffic. Cola also has zoo and Charlotte does not, yet. Cola is closer to the beach.
