Detroit looks absolutely nothing like Baltimore. They're completely different.

Seattle has over 3,400 occupied households per sq mile vs. 2,900 in Baltimore. Moreover, Seattle's going up while Baltimore's dropping.

DC is over 4,000, Boston 5,000.

More "urban" than DC?????? Is this a real statement??? DC is SIGNIFCANTLY more urban than Baltimore (as indicated in data below) let alone a much LARGER city than Baltimore.

Baltimore Urban Density 7671/sq mi
Washington, DC Urban Density 10528/sq mi

Baltimore is 88 sq mi and 620,000 people, while DC is 61 sq mi and 650,000 and climbing at a much faster rate. DT DC is the 3rd largest downtown in the United States. Baltimore's DT although very "urban" in its own right, is tiny compared to DC's. There is no way Baltimore is more urban than DC.

It depends on what you consider urban. In terms of a traditional urban layout Baltimore wins, rather than mid rise condos and retail sprawling everywhere you look like Seattle (I consider this artificial urban much what DC is becoming). I consider Baltimore more urban.

Haven't most sunbelt cities, but I think these are what you're looking for.

Detroit is nothing like Baltimore, in both density and built style (even pre-abandonment)

1950 Detroit was denser than Baltimore today, but 1950 Baltimore was denser than 1950 Detroit.

Nice maps - Seattle has densified a pretty extraordinary amount since 2010 so it would be interesting to see the updated maps with 2015 data.

I can understand that perspective for sure. In terms of the raw numbers, Seattle and Baltimore are very similar (per wikipedia, Seattle data is 2014, Balitmore is 2013):

Seattle Population: 668, 342
Balitmore Population: 622,104

Seattle Density: 7,969 PPSM
Baltimore Density: 7,671 PPSM
