Let me just say that besides the Dallas Cowboys, I'm pretty sure Dallas is at the very least less well known than Houston.

No. They’re both about as well known as each other.

I can say that having lived in both and being from somewhere else. The truth is both are very well known in business circles, but your average person doesn’t know much about the specifics. I work in LA and when I mention Houston has a great rap scene, is very diverse, or has a great food scene, very few actually know. Same goes for Dallas. If you mention specifics about the city, you just get empty stares. Both cities are stereotyped to be very conservative because they are in Texas and not named Austin.

The thing Houston is most well known for is oil. The thing Dallas is most well known for are the Dallas Cowboys. Beyond that, everyone knows about the cities but not about specifics.
