Dallas is blazing hot and more cowboy/big hair culture, Houston is insufferably sticky with more southern, sophisticated culture, Dallas is shopping, Houston is partying (after hitting up the museums), they both sprawl for miles and are both filled with plenty of friendly and boisterous locals.

That's my impressions, which I freely admit to being simple stereotypes and also from someone who has never really been to either, other than as a kid or on layovers. I just have a few friends from both places.

Houston nightlife is very weak imo, I would not classify the city as a "party city" as Austin has a reputation for (and indeed does it better). Even Dallas has a reputation for having better clubs than Houston, but I never tried to find out.

Honestly, I hear talk about Texas, about as often as you would hear Texans talk about Wisconsin.

OK then, maybe Houston has a better restaurant scene after the museums or theater performances?

Honestly I don't know anything about the cities other than 2nd hand and lurking around here knowledge which amounts to slightly better than zilch- but if I ever find myself in either I am convinced I would find more than a few things to like and enjoy about either or both- even as a rule I'm not a fan of super sprawling, not walkable cities.

Dallas is a better party city that Houston. Houston is a better eating city.

Also, Dallas isnt much of a Cowboy city at all. Perhaps you went to Fort Worth? Thats a Cowboy city.

Depends on what you like. If it's hip hop clubs, lounges, and the atmosphere altogether, Houston beats Dallas in this. Dallas is a bigger bar city. Houston is a lounge city. Houston's is just way to spread out though. There isn't any like a Deep Ellum or lower Greenville.

Dallas is more into EDM/dubstep and has better rock/metal. Houston itself also has better jazz, but Denton beats both in my opinion.

Yeah, Dallas is too "advanced" to embrace its western heritage...

To me, Dallas is a bit too formal and uppity. I prefer Houston.
