Portland, Oregon

Boulder is nice, but Portland is a major city with similar eccentricities and closer to the ocean.

Madison, WI or Athens, GA

Gotta be New Orleans. I love Detroit, but New Orleans is one of the places I'd live in one of those "anywhere you want" scenarios.

Duluth or Billings?

Santa Barbara because it's closer to LA. But both are beautiful places.

Newark because it is a city in a blue coastal state with easy rail access to DC, NYC, Philadelphia, etc.
Minneapolis vs Denver

Minneapolis

Lived in Minneapolis suburb until age 12. Know some people near Minneapolis and have relatives in western WI. Still root for MN sports teams. Only know one person near Denver in Colorado Springs. Stopped skiing at around age 40 (am 56 years old now). Minneapolis has several lakes, rivers, forests & parks in its region. Would like Duluth/Lake Superior for weekend trips, too. Less arid/greener than Denver with slightly lower COL.

Des Moines, IA or Buffalo, NY ?
