Have been to San Diego for several visits, so know the city better. Know more people (just one acquaintance in DC) and it puts me closer to family/friends in northern CA, too. Better climate and it is on the Pacific coast. Think it would be a little more laid back than DC.

Begrudgingly I'd pick Grapevine, TX. I'm all too familiar with Henderson and the area to choose to live there, it's not for me. I see Grapevine is part of a much more "happening" metro and is near some water, so that'd be nice.
Let's do a weird one: Centralia, PA or Monowi, NE?
Centralia. Even though it's in the middle of coal country, it is pretty close to some larger towns and less than an hour and a half from some bigger cities. Monowi seems too isolated for me despite its other perks.
