I used to live near Marfa (in Alpine) and I never saw the lights and now it's full of silly pretentious Chinati Foundation people so I pick Red River, NM by default.
For now, I'll say Charleston. We just love the area and visit there often. But the cost of living has gone up so much over the last 5 years or so than it's going to price many people out of home ownership. So Savannah has a brighter future in that regard. But I'd still pick Charleston at this point.

Greenville, SC or Dayton, OH?
Greenville is a great little metro with a superb downtown and a bright future.
Dayton just depresses me.
EDIT: beat me to it. Chicago! I loooove Chicago and am looking to hopefully move there soon. I like Brooklyn, but Chicago's (comparative) affordability and city planning make it a clear winner for me.
San Jose. It has much more going for it. I feel like Tacoma definitely lives in Seattle's shadow, while SJ doesn't really live in SF's shadow as much.

Tampa or Orlando?
I love both. This is a toughy. City, I'd pick Orlando. Metro, I'd choose Tampa.

Tampa or Orlando?
I'll pick Tampa because I like it's metro area better.

Boise, ID or Spokane, WA?
I'll go with Spokane because I like Washington more than Idaho.
Hunter's Point, San Francisco or Watts, Los Angeles?

Hunter's Point. More gentrification potential, IMO.
Charlottesville, VA or Athens, GA?
