Another tough one, lol. Two nice cities within top rated metros. Gotta give the edge to Murfreesboro. Love their history, battlefield, Cannonboro. I prefer Nashville metro just a smidgen over Raleigh/Durham. But both are good areas.
Roanoke, VA or Lexington, KY?
Roanoke, VA. I like the downtown more and being close to mountains.
Not knocking Sacramento, it has its attractions... but would rather live in Long Beach --
it has a pleasant maritime climate, better air quality than the inland parts of the LA area,
even its own airport (with Jet Blue & Southwest). LB transit isn't so good; you'd want a car.
But the Blue Line is there if you want to go into downtown LA w/o driving.
If I was going to live in LA, but couldn't afford Santa Monica, Long Beach would be my choice.

Sticking to New England:
Providence, R.I., or Hartford, Ct.?
Providence, a million times over. Hartford sucks. Providence has my favorite Little Italy (Federal Hill) and a good intact collection of historic architecture.

Denver, CO or Phoenix, AZ?
Denver... I like its urban neighborhoods better and avoiding the extreme summer heat would be a plus too.

Portland, OR of Charlotte, NC?
I find Portland to be more interesting and eclectic, livelier downtown and neighborhoods, more of a foodie scene, amazing parks and better public transit. I like Portland, could easily see myself comfortably living there.

Sacramento or Fort Worth?
Ft. Worth. I really like the DFW area. Don't like NoCal at all.
Orlando, FL or New Orleans, LA?
