Anyone else see a lot of similarities btw these two?

--> Both are only cities in the South that are majority Catholic
--> They rank 1st and 2nd in the number of Shotgun Houses - a design of Caribbean origin
--> Both have very large areas of Liberal, bohemian culture
--> Both are known for having a "big city attitude", despite being rather modest in population
--> Both have a historically large Jewish population (Lou- Jewish mayor and US Rep.)
--> Both are the most flood prone cities in the US (50% of Lou. only 1 foot above Ohio R flood zone)

Personally, no matter how bad New Orleans may be, it will always feel more of a city to me than Louisville.

Louisville sounds like a great place. I've only driven through it once and I couldn't stop but I plan on getting out there sometime. I'm sure Louisville has it's rough parts, but New Orleans seems like a lost cause with the slums, crime and hurricane damage. That's unfortunate because I like the French/Cajun influences of that area.

I think I stepped on some toes in the Louisville forum a month or so ago by inquiring about Louisville and making a comment that was misread as comparing it to Omaha or Des Moines.

I felt the same way when I lived in Louisville, glad to know I am not the only one that feels that way.
I know where the house is in Old Louisville in the pix, but where is the shotgun one, it looks really familiar.
All your points about Louisville and New Orleans were dead on, I just want to add that they are very similar as far as culture, the arts, attitude towards food and drink, and things of that nature.
Even though I never lived in New Orleans, we made the trip at least once a year for over 20 years, so I feel I got to know the city better than just a tourist.

Dont know if I would put New Orleans down for the count,
they are quite a resiliant people! there are so many areas that were relatively unscathed by the hurricane, just dont know how all that could be abandoned.

Another thing... both cities have historically had a reputation for having large numbers of interracial couples (ei miscegenation). That's probably one of the most frequent comments/ complaints I hear outsiders make about Louisville

Also.. both have very large and dense skyline per their pretty modest populations

glad to see some more pix of the area, it was just starting to come back when I left Louisville, always thought it was very charming. Love the old shotgun houses!

I have never been to "Nawlins" but would love to be considered alike because when I think of NO I think of alot of culture.
