Scottsdale is plenty old, bub. I prefer western cowboy and Native American history to ATL's history.
Preference are obviously going to differ but you do realize that the "age" reference was made in regard to the many & large old style, walkable urban neighborhoods that Atlanta has, right? If one prefers that type of area, then it's a no-brainer in Atlanta's favor here. There is very little comparable urban/historic flavor found among Phoenix's neighborhoods. I have a strong personal preference for that type of development and history but that's just me.
Speaking of neighborhoods, by comparison the "midtown" district in Phoenix comes up far short of it's Midtown sister in Atlanta.
Inman Park & Grant Park are 2 of the wonderful, historic intown neighborhoods in Atlanta.

On the north fringe of Grant Park lies the pre-Civil War era Oakland Cemetery that is a jewel & still in use.

And then there is vibrant Midtown.

But given the size of a metro like Atlanta (and Phoenix), it's still a good bit of them and that wasn't even an exhaustive list.

I personally don't view Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, or Atlanta's other edge cities as assets, as they siphon jobs and amenities away from the core and create unnecessary sprawl.
But that's more or less a ubiquitous feature of major metro areas. Heck it's par for the course in a couple of European major metro areas (Canary Wharf, La Defense, etc.).

Atlanta already has a Canary Wharf or a La Defense: Buckhead. I don't think we need half a dozen others.

Well Buckhead isn't a true edge city as it is within Atlanta's city limits (unlike La Defense), but point taken. Still, I'd consider Perimeter an asset--maybe not ideal, but an asset nonetheless.

No; they are accurate in some contexts.

Phoenix.

Location is perfect for weekend drives to LA, SD, and Vegas.

Desert view, sunsets, and mountains....nuff said.

Weather...... I hate humidity and mosquitoes.

Beautiful subs as already mentioned.

Atlanta is more cosmopolitan than PHX, that is big. Better colleges too. If Atlanta wasn't so southern and humid, with some mountains, I'd pick it over Phoenix, but I love mountains and blue skies!!

I live in Phoenix, but I have been to Atlanta. I don't like the South. Miami, New Orleans, Atlanta, et al, you can have them.

Fair enough. I like Phoenix though, I could (temporarily) live there.
