Out of the 4 mentioned cities, when it comes to development, I would have to go with Nashville.
I am not impressed with the commuter rail. It seems more of a toy than it does something that is useful. I am impressed with the new construction and the potential it has to transform itself into a city that may not be as big as Atlanta but offer a higher quality of life.
I was watching a tv show that had a segment filmed in Louisville. Beautiful city! It reminds me of St. Louis in so many ways.
This is interesting. Are they actually removing part of the existing building here? I like the contrasting design.
Not exactly. They would be removing part of the wall to allow access for the new addition, but where the glass and steel extension currently sits, there's just air. You can see where the existing building stops with the barely visible portions of red brick. It's one of those older buildings with a nicer facade facing the corner, and plain red brick on the back corner.
I like how Nashville and Austin are very walkable for music clubs, I am in tech but a musician and film maker at heart, I have never had anything but an amazing time visiting nashville and austin . So much fun to just get a hotel room and walk and see amazing music and great food and craft beer and good mixed drinks in Nashville and Austin, I love LA for the film but Austin and Nashville definitely have the better music scenes because of the clubs and streets that are walkable to visit and more compact cities
Can other cities compare to this? This photo does not even include much of Crown Center, Midtown and of course the Plaza. KC has a really impressive urban core. As far as built environment and historic building stock, I think Louisville would come in second. Then Nashville and then Indianapolis.
Those are some of the bigger projects. I don't feel like going through all the others, but almost everything else in this thread is UC or recently completed:
You guys have no idea how bad it is in KY. Louisville can't even think about getting mass transit because it doesn't even have adequate roads. What kind of city the size of Louisville has 2 lane freeways like I-64 and I-71 traveling throughout the city? So, because Nashville cannot get a few big ticket items you say they don't get what they want? Come on now. It is no coincidence that state capitol cities are more economically and growth positive than their counterparts since the growth of big government post WWII. There is not a state capitol in America that is not doing really well.
Montgomery AL, Albany NY, Sacramento CA, Topeka KS, Springfield IL, Lansing MI, Jackson MS, Harrisburg PA, and all the tiny state capitals would like to have a word with you
And guys, those pics of development are amazing. Can we make a thread solely for posting renderings of development in various cities?
