California has twenty million more people. They pay more to live there.
Why?
It's better . Alot better.
It's that simple.

Are you really comparing Coral Gables (C.G.) to all of So.Calif.? Come on, CG is considered one of the nicest parts of Miami-Dade County. Some even have the audacity to call it the Beverly Hills of Miami which is way off base in my view because C.G. is nowhere near the level of Beverly Hills. And I really LIKE Coral Gables.

I was just in Miami in 2015 and did some home price comparisons between Coral Gables and comparable neighborhoods in LA County. And C.G. home prices are more than a 50% discount to comparable LA County neighborhoods like West Hollywood or Larchmont Village (a neighborhood in LA).

Some info on two actual recent sales of small single-family homes:

Coral Gables:
2 Bed/2 Bath, 1,584 sq. ft. house on a 7,200 sq. ft. lot: sold in Nov. 2015 for $482,500 (or $305 per sq. ft.)

3821 Harlano St, Coral Gables, FL 33134 | Trulia

Larchmont Village area:
3 bed/2 bath, 1,573 sq. ft. house on a 4,998 sq. ft. lot: sold in Dec. 2015 for $1,130,000 (or $718 per sq. ft.)

307 N Windsor Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90004 | Trulia

Whatever, I can't deal with products of FloriDUH's education system anymore today....
Malik was born in Pakistan and the other guy's parents immigrated from Pakistan too. Hello? If you can't figure out what they were doing, maybe go take some World history re-medial courses in a local Community college, they will help you OPEN your eyes a bit...

I can't deal with ostriches...

This has nothing to do with either California or Florida because immigration is a federal issue. Even Illegal immigration, that's the fed's fault too, not California's.

It's considered a upper-middle class neighborhood.

There is a analogous neighborhood in Miami for them, it's called Coconut Grove. Example listing:

3833 Moorings Court, Coconut Grove, FL For Sale | Trulia.com

SFH - 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, 1,988 sqft, 3.6 million dollars or in other words, 1,808$ per sqft.

It has a big lot, let's look at what's common in Miami in these areas, Condos

2645 South Bayshore Drive #1803, Coconut Grove, FL For Sale | Trulia.com

Condo - 3 bedrooms, 5.5 baths, 4,480 sqft for 4,600,000$ at a average of 1,027$ per sq foot.
