I like the newer design of the Westar Tower than the previous one, it's to bad the Symphony was scrapped.

On the contrary, what you see is El Paso plus Juarez. Albuquerque Metro stretches from Belen to Bernalillo south to north roughly 40 miles. Plus Albuquerque stands alone not next to a large Mexican City. Just take a look at Google satellite images from the same distance.........Albuquerque is larger!

A few future El Paso projections already in the making:

USL Soccer Stadium / Team name, most likely to be built downtown or next to rail yards, the spaghetti factory was to open a few years ago at the old freight depot- be great if it comes back into plan.

It's a shame about the arena not being able to be used for sports, though. Kinda defeats the purpose of building it if it can only host non-sporting events. That's why many think it may never get built. Plus all the controversy that has erupted about the site. Plenty of obstacles to overcome.

Some people in El Paso are also worried about the crushing $2 billion in debt the city has racked up lately.

A new building to house the Albuquerque Complex offices of the National Nuclear Security Administration has been authorized to begin construction in July. The $175 million, 333,000 square foot building will house over 1,200 employees. The facility will be built on Sandia National Labs property at the eastern edge of Kirtland Air Force Base near the Sandia Science & Technology Park.

https://d3el53au0d7w62.cloudfront.ne...ay_complex.jpg

The SSTP houses companies which take technologies developed at Sandia and transfer them to commercial uses. The park is home to over 2,100 employees at nationally recognized companies such as Raytheon and many more homegrown businesses such as SolAero Technologies. It has had a total ecomic impact of more than $2.8 billion since it first opened in 1998.

Sandia National Laboratories itself employs over 11,000 people locally and is responsible for about $2 billion in economic activity in Albuquerque each year. It currently has nearly 6 million square feet of space in Albuquerque. It was recently named by Forbes as one of the top 20 places to work nationally.

All above correct- due to some local historians that don't want to have the arena built have delayed construction at that location although last week the Mayor announced it is continuing with purchasing leftover property and has confirmed the arena will get built and will include sports.

The Westside luxury 22 story twin towers are still under approval, developers mentioned during the introduction they will need to sell half of the million dollar condos before the towers get built, last I heard they are well above the half mark, they are now called Miradores at Shadow Mountain.

Last I heard Shadow Mountain was reduced to a regular apartment complex. This was according to an accounting by a poster on a skyscraper site which I can't mention by name here because of this site's rules against doing so.

Is your mayor prepared to go to jail for defying a state judge's ruling? There's no way the arena will include sports. The judge ruled that the voters did not approve money for a sports arena, but rather a multi-purpose performing arts and entertainment center with no mention of the word sports in the ballot language. She prohibited any of the money being used to construct things like locker rooms in the facility. She also prohibited any of those things being built with any other monies. It seems pretty hard to defy and get around to me.

As you may know many people in all cities sometimes are against development and progress- similar to what ABQ went through with ART, horrible posting about ART all over public media, no difference with developments here in El Paso.

As far as the Meyers Group with their high rise developments and the city of El Paso they have not announced that they have been reduced to a regular apartment complex, the parcel is to small for a complex- hence the high-rises.

An article from the city's Convention and Visitors Bureau highlighting all the accolades the city has received for 2018:

https://www.visitalbuquerque.org/abq...edia-rankings/

Among the highlights of the rankings are Travel + Leisure placing the city among the global 50 Best Places to Travel in 2018. National Geographic Traveler named the city as one of the 30 best smaller cities in the United States. Insider named Albuquerque to its list of the Hippest Cities in the U.S. Everyone Wants to Move to. Insider also name Albuquerque as one of the 27 Underrated U.S. Destinations Everyone Should Visit in their Lifetime. Travelocity posited the question: Is Albuquerque the Next Trendy City? And Expedia listed Albuquerque and the Balloon Fiesta as the destination for October in its list of The Best Places to Travel Each Month in 2018.

A couple of more plaudits the city has received since that article was written:

SmartAsset ranked Albuquerque as the 5th best city for women in tech based upon pay equity and representation in the local workforce.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DWkmjl9VoAAhO2y.jpg

The Independent has named Albuquerque as one of The 29 Coolest Small U.S. Cities to Visit in 2018 based upon its craft beer scene.

https://www.independent.co.uk/travel...-a8338806.html

Just today it was announced that Yelp has ranked Albuquerque as the 7th best city in the country for economic opportunity.

Exactly, so don't crow about developments which may or may not happen in El Paso since the Symphony Tower was canceled here. I always prefer to look at what's actually built or under construction. You and the other El Paso poster, Chuco, have both loved naysaying projects in Albuquerque while gloating about projects in El Paso, some of which have been canceled or have become inactive proposals. It does indeed happen everywhere and fortunes and tides do change.

I agree, in my case all I have posted is what is coming out of El Paso development news, I haven't seen or read any cancellations in developments yet especially now with El Paso's strong economy and growth. I remember a few years ago when city manager Joyce Wilson was in office, she told media that in 10 years you will not be able to recognize El Paso, the change is currently happening, everywhere in all parts of the city is there construction and renewal- it's amazing. During the last 2012 quality of life bond propositions former San Antonio mayor Henry Cisneros advertised to encourage El Pasoans to vote and pass the bond propositions and they were approved, he said that San Antonio at one time was similar to El Paso- no progress no gain, if you look at San Antonio now, it's booming I guess he knew what the was talking about. I'm sure other factors are required for a city to prosper.
