What's the criteria for "dangerous" in this thread? 10 murders per 100k? 20? 25 violent crimes per 100k? 50?

Personally, I think murder and attempted murders (like stabbings and shootings and bludgeonings) are the wor st kinds of violent crimes. Either way, this list will look ENTIRELY different if some criteria was placed and it was fact-checked....

Wow Memphis getting some votes and it certainly is a crime ridden horrible place but Detroit is the king of crime in the USA.

Agreed. Or a number of rougher cities (ATL, MIA, MIL, NOR, etc).

Not really a big fan of violent rates. I judge a city by how many shootings it has in the bad areas since I dont want to group the entire city into a category. Also I dont want the good parts of the city to be overshadowed by crime stats when the majority of the crimes are in the bad areas. If 40 people get shot in the bad areas this weekend I dont say "well it isnt that bad because per capita...." because 40 people still got shot. Also imo generally speaking it doesnt matter how many people are in the city because if random people are always getting killed I dont say "well 2 random people got shot today but since this city is large it doesnt matter" because those people still got shot

But the reason I said it doesn't belong on this list is because its murder rate is nowhere near as high as cities generally considered to be the most dangerous in the country.
Solid point. I was trying to look up the murder rate for the borough but for some reason found it difficult. I know that parts of The South Bronx are troubled but I guess not make Bronx County more violent than other comparable cities.

I think having someone like Telly Hankton live within your city would validate New Orleans at the top of this list.

Thanks for saying this because I moved to Philly during the worst of the city's violent crime period during the 90's, prior to any gentrification, when crime was much worse than it is now. And back then I never saw a gun, except on law enforcement, and never heard any gun fire. I still haven't 20 years later. And, yes, I do live in a good Philly neighborhood.
