There are so many to choose from - many of them not on this list. Plus, most American cities are just as safe as anywhere else in the majority of the city.
This is not a definitive list and not in any particular order. The cities listed, especially the larger ones like Chicago or Philadelphia, certainly have perfectly safe neighborhoods. However, just on brief research I would expect these cities to be listed for their respective categories.
