Yeah, that's one for every 7,000,000 people plus the nearby TV market! I bet any city could divide their city into groups of 7,000,000 people and be just fine.

Now, from a logistics standpoint, Norfolk makes the most sense because it's directly in the middle of the metro, it is the cultural center and "The City". Personally, though, I'd love to see a team in HRVA, but I think there are too many more attractive markets besides the Tidewater...

Talk is cheap turn dirt and I will say that the NBA is coming your way, but not a moment sooner.

I don't think there's a ton of overlap in the fan base at all. If anything, Baltimore probably has a more dedicated fan base than DC, especially when it comes to MLB.

NASHVILLE (NO). Just not big enough for NBA and NHL.
Nashville already has an NHL team: https://www.nhl.com/predators/ But I don't think it's big enough for three major league teams at this point.

Given all things considered, I think the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area would be a great pick. They have no major sports teams, they have the metro population, TV market, Richmond metro nearby, and enough distance between them and DC.

Louisville has a 22,500 seat arena completed in 2010. It is also the best basketball tv market in the USA, always #1 for the NCAA basketball tournament and NBA draft. In theory if both the NFL and NBA were in Louisville the NBA would still be more popular. The problem is the 'college first' mentality of too many big money people and people in local govt. Many of the old money types are very anti growth so they can maintain control. When the arena was built it has wording that it must be "a college first arena", the University of Louisville would have to agree to share the arena with the NBA. Most of my credit hours came from that university but I make no attempt to defend their anti pro sports paranoia. The arena has a lot of debt problems despite tons of sell out events, the NBA would get it financially solvent.

Okay, could Buffalo, NY support 3 NHL teams?
NYC has 25,000,000 people in the surrounding area, very different than Columbus OH or Oklahoma City.
An in addition you could argue that NYC is oversaturated, the Islanders are still having attendance issues even though they made it to the Eastern Semis last year, less than 11,000 people went to the Isles games last night.

My point was is that the sports only have small periods of seasonal overlap, so just because a place has a MLB and NFL team doesn't mean it couldn't also support an NBA or NHL team
