Powerful? I'd say Chicago. Culturally Significant? Chicago has the best high culture, but based on diversity, Toronto IMO. World Class City? Subjective, Montreal IMO has the best natural setting and probably the best urbanity, but Toronto and Chicago both likely have more world class, big city type amenities, so the answer is, I honestly don't know. I voted Chicago based on all three though.

Toronto has more diversity, BUT Chicago is more powerful - even having the CBOE/CME alone makes it extremely powerful for anybody who understands that market and its impact on not only the country, but the world. For research institutions, University of Toronto has some good research that comes out of it as does McGill in Montreal, but both are completely outmatched by the University of Chicago, which has the 3rd most Nobel laureates of any university in the world (and the current President of the US was once a lecturer there, as well as people like the now former Chair of the India Federal Reserve who is back to being a professor there). Only Harvard and Columbia have had more. University of Toronto is tied for 60th, and McGill is a little above that. Chicago also has Northwestern, which could be seen closer at the level of a U of Toronto or McGill, but having University of Chicago completely pushes it over the edge.

I'd pick Chicago for high culture (orchestras, operas, museums, fine dining, etc) too though Toronto isn't far behind.

All great cities really, though. Could do a lot worse than those three.

It's not any of these thing, but I'm voting for Montreal because I like it better.

I've only been to Montreal once, and it was too cold for me to adequately enjoy myself...and I have no problem with the NY, Chicago or Boston winters.I'm usually a "weather doesn't matter" guy, but that cold definitely made an impression on me.

I would say Toronto is the most diverse and culturally significant.

Chicago is the most powerful for sure though.

I like all three cities, but its really a battle between Chicago & Toronto based on the OP's poll question.
