Baltimore, Birmingham, and New Orleans, which are collectively over two times smaller than Chicago, have seen more murders than Chicago thus far. This is why things are measured by rate and not by volume when making comparisons.
Also, you need to be mindful of where the murders are taking place. Are they rampant across various parts of the city, or are they located in a certain area/neighborhood?
If you look at the homicide map in Baltimore you can see that the murders happen pretty much all over the city except Downtown and scattered slices of safety here and there. St. Louis looks awful too except for the southwestern quarter of the city. New Orleans is much more regionalized, with the safest areas located just blocks away from warzones, like Bywater/St. Claude, Marigny/7th Ward, Garden District/Central City
Not to turn it into politic and stuff but i was checking the life expectency by states in the US and I found out that all the states with the lowest life expectency are all red states except Nevada and Delaware and mostly all in the south... fascinating how the states with by far the higest life expectancy are almost all in the northeast and southwest. This country is pretty much severals differents countries into one.. so different.
Red states and particularly southern states have little gun control, no states medical coverage so people do not see the doctors quite often and are uninsured... thus the low life expectency...
