-Which city produces the most hip hop today
-Which city has hip hop as a more significant part of its culture
-Which city has hip hop as a more significant part of its identity ("NYC is known for many things while Atlanta is known more for hip hop")
-Which city has the hottest artists
I'm asking which city is more famous for hip hop around the world. I figured it was an interesting question considering that the NY scene is past its prime while the same doesn't appear to be true for Atlanta's.
You already answered your own question. New York, without a doubt.
As far as Atlanta still being in it's prime, that probably has as much to do with the industry as it does with the local talent. I still say Atlanta is in what was New York City back in the nineties right now. When we first heard Atlanta artists, late eighties, that was probably their equivalent of where New York was back in the early seventies.
Basically I'm saying that Atlanta's development is around 15 to 20 years behind that of New York City, which means that the trends could reverse at any time. Atlanta has some hot artists, but I don't think they are as hot now as they were five years ago. It definitely is not as exciting as it was 10 years ago. I think it is the same handful of artists that keep winning, and production has a lot to do with it.
People don't think of it as an Atlanta vs. New York thing now as they did back then. It is just music.
Lmao. This thread is a gleaming example of far folks will go to discredit Atlanta and the South in general. Georgia, Florida, and Louisiana run hip hop. And in THAT order.
New York boosters: "Err'body know y'all jealous. It's so clear."
Not to get off topic but what Joe Budden did to the Migos last night was disrespectful.
Up North Artist are definitely envious of the success coming out of Atlanta right now.
They been jealous since the early 90s and the rise of Laface. In fact we were just talking about how Jay-Z decided to release his album on the same day that TLC is due to release theirs. Haters will do all they can to stop your shine. It would be hilarious if TLC still debuts at the top. That will be a burn that will NOT heal.

More like annoyed. I mean he dropped the mic on them which was really a shot at Akademiks when he said they were one of his favorite groups. He knew he was frontin and playing. I can't wait until mumble rap disappears. They talk about nothing in their music.
