Maybe so but do not forget the 4 or 5 months Phoenix is blazing hot...
not pleasant unless you are an extreme heat lover.
El Paso/Las Cruces metro is better in that regard.
Albuquerque too is very good.
Both are on the “small” side but have metros closing in on 1 million.
I would agree that El Paso has a better climate than Phoenix but I don't consider it a major metropolitan area. The 4-5 months of hot in Phoenix are great for swimming.

Man, I knew it wouldn't take long for someone to make a silly list like this. I will never understand you people. My personal one would be
1. San Diego
2. L.A
3. Bay Area(East Bay and Silicon Valley, Not SF)
4. Miami
5. Atlanta
6. Charlotte
7. Austin/San Antonio
8. Nashville
9. Phoenix
10. Jacksonville
Yeah......let's just agree to disagree Personally this wouldn't be my top 10 places to live. Climate isn't the only thing that matters, but it's up there.
1. San Diego
2. LA
3. Bay Area (San Jose and Contra Costa County to be exact.)
4. Miami and pretty much any city in Florida
5. Atlanta and other peidmont region cities.
I like 4-season climates, then warmer. In no particular order. I know my list of preferences will be much different than most, lol. I include earthquakes, wildfires, and droughts as part of "climate". So, that's why I don't include CA metro areas.
Washington (DC)
Norfolk/Virginia Beach
Richmond
Charlotte
Greensboro/Winston Salem
Raleigh/Durham
Nashville
Atlanta
Orlando
Tampa/St. Petersburg
Basically my criteria is how many days will the weather be pleasant so you would want to be outside...on that scale, Phoenix tops most places except some areas of Cali.
I wouldn't wanna be outside in 110+ degree weather, YMMV.
I don't know why people think you can't go outside in Winter. It's the best season for hiking, and Winter sports.
Amen. Its funny cuz I grew up in Miami yet I don't get cold very easily. I can go out in 15 degrees and barely feel a thing. I wonder why so many people complain? Are they not dressing right? It is not that hard to dress for the cold just layer up.
