Cleveland ended with 129 (decrease of 1 from 2017)

https://www.10tv.com/article/clevela...homicides-2018

Akron ended with 36 (decrease of 7 from 2017 ... though as noted in the link there was an arson that killed 7 people in 2017, so removing that and the numbers were equal to last year.)

It has several run down and blighted areas that attract crime. I didn't feel safe in Birmingham when I was there.

As Chicago continues to decrease down to what it was before 2016, here's a look at some of the top increases and decreases by community area in the city comparing 2015 to 2018. While 2015 represents a little higher than a kind of average for many years before, it's not too much higher. It represents an OK baseline.

Of the 77 community areas in Chicago, 38 of them in 2018 had the same amount of homicides or less than compared to what they had in 2015.

Top Decreases
1. Uptown: -11 homicides
2. Chatham: -8 homicides
3. Irving Park: -7 homicides
4. South Chicago: -6 homicides
5T. Gage Park: -5 homicides
5T. South Lawndale: -5 homicides
7T. Kenwood: -4 homicides
7T. Logan Square: -4 homicides
9T. Ashburn: -3 homicides
9T. Bridgeport: -3 homicides
9T. Greater Grand Crossing: -3 homicides
9T. Lower West Side: -3 homicides
9T. Morgan Park: -3 homicides
9T. Washington Heights: -3 homicides

Biggest Increases
1T. Englewood: +11 homicides
1T. West Pullman: +11 homicides
3T. Auburn Gresham: +10 homicides
3T. Chicago Lawn: +10 homicides
3T. Riverdale: +10 homicides
6. North Lawndale: +8 homicides
7T. Austin: +6 homicides
7T. New City: +6 homicides
7T. South Shore: +6 homicides
7T. Washington Park: +6 homicides

As Miami booming with dozens of constructions thoughout out the city it has recorded lowest murders since 1967. Boston and Atlanta recorded more murders than Miami in 2018.

“Miami recorded 51 homicides last year, according to statistics supplied by the city’s police department. That’s down from 59 in 2017 and its lowest yearly total since in 1967. A drop in homicides is not the only decline on record. Crime numbers in Miami show that burglaries in 2018 were down 11 percent from the previous year. Robberies dropped 17 percent. Assault and battery were down 6 percent.”

“And the drop in major crime isn’t an anomaly across the county. Miami-Dade police released crime statistics late Tuesday that show a similar pattern. Homicides in unincorporated Miami-Dade — which comprises residents who don’t live in cities and has a population of more than 1 million — dropped almost 16 percent, from 94 in 2017 to 79 last year.”

Do you have the links to the homicide rates for Atlanta in the 1930's - 1980's ?

Historically Detroit held the murder reputation

My understanding is that Detroit didn't start leading the pack in those stats until the 1970's, not historically. Detroit was inline with every major legacy city through the 1960's. The turning point for Detroit was the 1967 12th St. riots. It was after that point that the city went into collapse.
