Still, there is a compliment within what you said above, and I respect you, so thank you.

Here is the thing--people are more than welcome to disagree with me. I have reasoned about The American South and Texas various times over the last several years and just don't have the time anymore.

But I will say this (again)...

About Texas:

I adore Texas. Texas is a nation itself. I place Texas in a similar category as Poland, Spain, Romania, Italy, Ukraine, etc. Texas is the kind of place where a student can study abroad for a year, go deep, and only travel around Texas. Not including Texas in The American South has nothing to do with "Ewww, as if, stay away." It's about giving Texas the proper respect and prestige it deserves. Texas is not just a simple state hanging on to the western part of The American South. It is its own nation, its own region, its own culture--and yes, that includes many cultural elements, etc. of The American South mixed together in the amalgamation that is Texas.

FWIW, The American South is also like a nation. Just having Texas as a hanging part of that does not do it justice.
Look, I like Texas too. I am heading down there tonight, but it's not above regional classification. Texas isnt the only state with a unique identity and assortment of cultures. Texas is Texas but that doesnt make it apart from the South. California is California but it's still part of the West Coast.

The egoism surrounding Texas can range from tongue-in-cheek charming to flat out nauseating. Texas is the South/Southwest. What does North Texas have that's so radically different from Oklahoma? What does East Texas have that's so radically different from Louisiana? What does West Texas have that's radically different from New Mexico? I will agree that it's not the SouthEAST but it's the South all right. Sorry, no states except arguably Alaska and Hawaii, are regionless. I'll give Texas the leeway of being a transregional area but it's not regionally isolated. It IS really big but that also lends to the ego it has.

Without the Confederacy? It'll never happen. You see every post after this one, in regards to Richmond, has been about the Confederacy. That and the statues are the only leg they have to stand on. How dare we expect them to have an actual objective opinion backed by first hand, recent experience.

I totally disagree.

You should respect the uniqueness of Texas.
