I thought this might be an interesting match up since they're probably the best major cities in the their region for natural scenery. The City in a Forest vs The City of Lakes. Which striking and unique inland metro is better for outdoor recreation? Which do you believe to have the better overall scenery/setting? Which blends urbanity and nature together better?

Atlanta... It's not close.

I like the twin cities region but in terms of nature and scenery it has nothing on par with Atlanta outside of the Mississippi River that travels between both the downtown regions, and definitely has nothing on par with its forestry and Blue Ridge area or even Stone Mountain Park. Atlanta is also more outdoor friendly during the fall / winter / spring months than the Twin Cities is as well and stays green longer throughout the year.

Within the city? Minneapolis St Paul.

Within counties (Hennepin/et al vs Fulton/et al)? Close, almost a wash, but I’ll go with Twin Cities

Regionally? Probably Atlanta, though don’t sleep on Duluth, the North Shore, Boundary Waters or even to the west and south of MSP either.

So I guess it largely depends on type of recreation and area preferred.

Both are great and perhaps in National Top 10 for my tastes even.

I like both but MSP is pretty run of the mill. Atlanta offers everything you find in MSP but better. More trees, more greenery, more hills, prettier rivers/lakes, etc. Plus there's really no answer to a place like Stone Mountain or Sweetwater Creek. As far as Outdoor recreation I think it's pretty even when it comes to outdoorsy culture. But I don't think you'll find to much hiking around MSP so I'd give the edge to Atlanta.

Wisconsin is my favorite state in the US for being outdoors. MSP for its proximity to that, but I’d still much rather live in Atlanta.

Personally not a fan of the landscapes around Atlanta, even though I know a lot of people love it. I'm going with MSP.

Minneapolis, in spite of my current frustrations with it, is still one of the nicer, cleaner cities in the country and utilizes it's outdoor surroundings better than most. Minnesota and Wisconsin are two of the absolute best outdoorsy states east of the Rockies. And yes, they're active year-round.
I couldn't care less about hills. Mountains can be kinda neat if they're a dramatic backdrop, which in no way describes Atlanta.
Minneapolis gets my vote here.
