Im not sure why that's such a shock.

Yes much of it is tech related. Just the South Bay:

San Jose Metro Area: 184,614 Asian Indians...9.2% of the total pop

Dallas $128,852
Chicago $126,870
Los Angeles $120,353

This is exceptionally high for such a large immigrant group. Kudos to them.
Damn, I knew they were successful but wasn't expecting figures like this.

To be fair though, they do tend to have large household sizes in my experience.

Since this topic is specific to South Asia and not just India, we need to also see stats for Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. New York has a massive Pakistani and Bangladeshi population, with the latter group in particular growing at a massive rate especially in Queens. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bangladeshis surpass the 100k mark in time for the 2020 census (city proper and not MSA/CSA).

Added a couple more metro areas, likewise from 2017 ACS one year estimates.

Greater Los Angeles has a rather small corporate and high-tech industry presence per capita compared to the other large metro areas, and an unfavorable income to cost of living balance. In a sense it is already more "saturated" with immigrants compared to other parts of the country, and thus has less capacity for newer arrivals.
