Oh no .... hope things remain civil. But first criteria of;
- Fastest growing is a given and to have it as the main choice is a given to Toronto. We all have seen the thread that boast Only DFW metro is faster growing in North America and Toronto is more in its city limits probably. It boast the most high-rises going up as it continues the merit immigrant migration of professionals immigrating into Canada's principle city.
Tallest - did not say building. So again..... goes to Toronto for its CN Tower.
So that leaves only the other two Chicago can or does win. So criteria is still way in Toronto's favor just as it wins the first two off the bat..... without debate.
If merely on SKYLINE - Chicago still gets on all the world skyline list you search. Toronto is generally lower to much lower. But both can boast skylines that sprawl along a Great Lake. But Chicago does not have multiple CBD's.
Toronto was re-created in a amalgamation of cities into one. But Chicago's boast every era of the Skyscraper in its appeal. After all.... it gets credit for the first skyscrapers to use steel skeletons. Some of the earliest still stand. The first does not.
Its growth is so primarily in high-rises ..... single-homes are more a luxury and cost prove it. Toronto zones for high-rises, mid-rises etc. It gets what it zones for.....
Toronto's is definitely top notch but I have to give it to Chicago. Both are amazing though. For North American skylines I have it as 1)NYC. 2)CHI. 3) TOR. 4)SF. 5)PHI
Baring the CN Tower, Chicago’s skyline is taller. Toronto is just started construction on its first supertall with a second in development. While Chicago has 5 currently.
Now I’m terms of who’s throwing up more buildings.... Toronto by a landslide. It’s already on pace to surpass Chicago within the decade in the number of +100m buildings.
That being said, Chicago imho has the more iconic skyline. It’s significantly more diverse in terms of architecture, building type and pure heritage. Millennium park is just icing on the cake in that gives amazing views and vantage points of the loop.
Baring NYC they are comfortably the 2 biggest skylines in NA but I don’t think Toronto is quite at Chicago’s level yet
If we are talking pure building count Toronto has either passed or will pass Chicago within this decade. There’s currently ~27 additional buildings over 100m U/C this year alone.
If we are using that as a baseline metric, they are 100% in the same tier.
Toronto is growing fast and it’s nice, but Chicago is more interesting and made MUCH better use of the lake. It’s possibly the best, most interesting and beautiful skyline in North America. They are definitely same tier though.
Toronto has a lot of buildings, and is adding at a shockingly rapid rate. But... It's just not a pretty place. The skyline is huge, but filled with uninspired, bland glass boxes. I just do not find anything about this pretty. https://www.google.com/maps/@43.6437...7i16384!8i8192
My vote goes to Chicago.
