I think Austin and Columbus are fairly similar:

*They are both about the same size city and metro.
*Both are state capitals of high population states.
*Both have 2 of the largest state universitys in the nation.
*Both are fairly new to the big city/ metro game and still get overshadowed on a nationwide scale by larger metros in their state.
*Both are among the fastest growing cities in their state.
*Neither city has ever declined in population from one census to the next.
*Neither city has a navigable river running thru it.
*Both cities have similar diversity numbers.

I don't know if that's where the similarities end, but that's all I can think of.

How are Minneapolis and St Paul not the default answer cities? It seems like common sense.

They border each other in the same metro, doesn't count

That's probably why the now cancelled TV show Memphis Beat was filmed in New Orleans

The OP didn’t establish that criteria.
