RVA is for sure the real one. Also the best one and very much one of the southern gem mid-sized cities, though more and more are taking note and visiting for food, drink and city exploring.

Richmond KY is sort of a suburb of Lexington. Total college town with my wife's alma mater EKU there. It has grown tremendously over the last 20 tears. Pretty nice place!

Richmond RI was formed in 1747, about 10 years after Richmond VA. Richmond Vermont was formed in 1794.
I'm in Richmond British Columbia pretty often. The Vancouver airport is there. It's so Chinese that most of the business signs don't have English.
If I'm standing in Burlington VT and you say Richmond, I'm going to think of the suburb two towns east on I-89. If I'm in Vancouver BC, my mouth is going to start watering thinking about Dim Sum lunch.

This is true; however, there are also a number of Richmonds in the U.S. specifically named after the one in Virginia (e.g., Richmond, KY, Richmond, MO, Richmond, IN, etc). And many of the Richmonds found in the New England region and ultimately, Richmond, BC and Richmond, ON were actually named in honor of the Duke of Richmond and not directly for the town in London itself that became Richmond Upon Thames. And there are still others elsewhere also named for ordinary people, like in Richmond, KS.
Richmond Upon Thames in London and Richmond, VA do have a proper sister city relationship, and it is the one in Virginia whose colonial proprietor named the city based on the similar visual characteristics of the rivers, Richmond Hill (Richmond, London). But there are dozens of cities named Richmond and even then, Richmond Upon Thames ultimately owes its own name to Richemont, Normandy, France through a twist of successive feudal relationships. All of these are real places. Whichever one is most important to you is probably a matter of perspective.
