If there's any city that can be considered a miniature Charlotte, it's definitely Greenville. Atlanta is really more of it's own thing and it's to find an alternate version, but I think you could see a little bit of Greenville, Birmingham, and even Charlotte in Atlanta in different ways.

The best I can do for a "rich man's" San Antonio is San Diego. They both have the military, tourism, Spanish history, etc, but certainly San Diego is much more expensive, better located, and generally nicer.

I never been to Buffalo, Milwaukee and Salt Lake City. But can you give me your definition of a poor man's version of a city? I ask this because of COL in Reno is about the same as Salt Lake.
