Richmond I've included in the poll. Savannah and Charleston are not what I'd consider 'major' cities.

Of the list:

1. New Orleans
2. Miami
3. Dallas
4. Houston
5. Atlanta

If I left off some cities, it's because I don't consider them to be "major" or "urban."

*BTW, my list considers the city as a whole, not just the core or specific neighborhoods.

Interesting OP!

OP, could you list some criteria you want us to consider as far as urban goes? Thank you

Okay, okay. Name some neighborhoods. I pick New Orleans, Miami, and Richmond easy.

The Fan, Chuch Hill, Brookland Park, Museum District, Oregon Hill, etc are hard to touch for 3 of the Big 4 of the South and Jax, CLT, Nashville, etc.

I definitely would not consider Richmond leaning Northeast.

Baltimore
New Orleans

D.C. is urban but doesn't have much character imo.

Why are people continuing to put D.C. and Baltimore down? Historically southern but currently no.

1.New Orleans

2.Richmond
3.Miami
4.Atlanta

Pretty much this and nothing else.

Some of the votes are very baffling.

Urban character to me means many older buildings still standing with an urban infrastructure, some density, and vibes you wouldn't find in a newer architectural city with flashy malls, glass towers and the suburban office park/shopping center.

Also, larger cities mostly get more consideration too, just due to their sheer size and many areas or urban flavor and character.

To rank your list according to most urban character, to least, it would go something like this, imo:

New Orleans
Houston
Atlanta
Dallas
Memphis
Richmond
Nashville
Austin
Miami
Charlotte
San Antonio
Louisville
Birmingham
Norfolk
Tampa
Orlando
Jacksonville
Raleigh
