Miami is definitely the first city non-Floridians think of - which is a shame, because Miami is such an outlier compared to the rest of the state.
Orlando may be #2, but people tend to think of Disney World and the other theme parks more so than they think of Orlando the city.
They're certainly not thinking "Orlando the city." A lot of people don't even know that there is really a bustling, mid-sized sunbelt city a few miles north of the theme parks. Miami is really the only CITY that is recognizable to some degree by most non-Floridians.
My theory to why this poll isn’t as lopsided as Texas or even Cali’s despite Miami being bu far the most dominate city in Florida unlike Texas and California who have multiple, is that people for whatever reason like to think of California as the weird state like what you think of more in northern Florida.
